Alright, I decided to just leave Cyprus. The time spent isn't worth the time missed from other places on my other itinerary. Transportation is too difficult, and it's also rather expensive.
I took a bus to Nicosia, the last divided capitol in the world. Reluctantly I had to ask the tourism office how to cross the border. She didn't seem pleased to give an answer, and I was a little sorry I had asked, but she haphazardly pointed in a direction and I left without saying another word.
The border itself was, again, surprisingly simple to navigate. It seems to most conflicted security zones are rather easy to enter. Of course I'm a tourist, as opposed to an Israeli or a Cypriot. At any rate, I crossed in about two minutes, and was soon waiting for a minibus to Girne, a Northern Cyprus town... wait for it, by ths sea. From there I will take a ferry to Turkey proper. The minibus turned out to be a Mercedes van. Way to go, Turkey.
Girne is a lovely little town with a beautiful harbor and spectacular views. Here's one.
OK, I'm just being a brat now. After admiring the views. I had a kebab (Northern Cyprus much cheaper than Southern Cyprus) and sat by the sea. I guess there are worse things than continuously being by bodies of water. Tomorrow I catch the ferry to Tasucu, and maybe buses to Cappadoccia, where I ultimately want to be. If the bus schedules don't permit, I'll have to spend a night in another little town by the sea.
I suppose if you plan to live on a tropical island, you needn't complain about being by the sea on your vacation. Many would trade places with you! :-)
ReplyDeleteTake as many photos as you can in Cappadoccia.
